Bad Tape 2 v1.0.0 WiN MAC

Did it get worse? The Bad Tape is amongst denise’s most popular plugins and focuses on recreating tape artifacts in a controlled way: tape stops, slight slow-downs and speed-ups, multiple ways to go out of tune and off the grid. Now denise wanted to take the Bad Tape to the next level, giving you more FX and a new level of flexibility to shape the tape degradation of your sound. With the Bad Tape 2, it gets even worse!

Next level detune
The detune is perhaps the most beloved feature of the Bad Tape, both by our users and ourselves – and for this new release, we wanted to take it to the next level. We added the ability to control the rewind and recover times of the detune individually. Work off the grid or sync it to the host BPM if you like. Recreate the sound of a (slightly) broken tape recorder, a cassette player or the nostalgic vibe of your old walkman.

What does the side-chain add?
With the newly added advanced side-chains, you can trigger your tape malfunctions via external audio sources: for instance, create detuned synth grooves from your kicks, resulting in an elegant touch – or complete madness. Use the side-chain to add interesting rhythmic noise textures with “Hiss” and “Harm” or finally control that damned squeaking tape reel to only play when desired, resulting in a very organic sound and a whole new level of fun and depth.

Knocktonal v1.0.2 AU VST3 macOS-MORiA

Knocktonal v1.0.2 macOS

MORiA | 03/03/2022 | 27.17 MB

Knocktonal is a note-based resonance enhancer, allowing users to boost (or cut) resonances as well as their corresponding harmonic overtones. Simply put, Knocktonal allows drum tuning via eq, without the need for re-pitching samples. This can be quite useful, as destructive re-pitching or pitch shifting will often affect the tonality of sounds in negative ways. This may include unwanted augmentation of the transients, texture, attack, and decay of your sounds. Knocktonal allows these resonance boosts/cuts to be controlled statically, or dynamically with either automation or MIDI input, the latter of which can create some incredibly unique sounding melodic pitch augmentation. Knocktonal can also be used to turn simple drum sounds like short kicks, into 808’s with a long tail by narrowing the resonance Q control (#10 on plugin overview). All plugin controls have hints that will display as popups when a mouse is hovered for 2 seconds.

The subtractive EQ section of Knocktonal is designed to remove any unwanted resonating frequencies that pre- exist in the audio you’re working with. This is useful in order to achieve a “blank slate”, before enhancing any new resonances. As with the additive resonance section of the plugin, the Subtractive EQ can be controlled in several ways. First, statically, by simply setting the note and leaving it. This is useful for one-shot drum sounds that are identical throughout the performance. The subtractive EQ can also be controlled dynamically for sounds that have shifting resonances, such as a melodic performance. This can be done in two ways. First, by using automation, and second, by sending a MIDI signal to MIDI Channel 2 of the plugin.

The resonance EQ section is where the power of Knocktonal really shines. This is the primary place where usage will occur. The resonance EQ is designed to push a root note, and all accompanying harmonic overtones, both even and odd. You can also set the resonance EQ to Octave mode by turning off the Overtones button, which allows control over all octaves of the root note. As with the subtractive EQ, the additive resonance EQ can be controlled both statically, and dynamically via automation or MIDI input.

EVE2 v2.51 AU VSTi WiN MAC

TEAM ASSiGN | 15 JANUARY 2010 | WiN+MAC: 673MB

What’s EVE? EVE stands for Electronic Vintage Ensemble, which suggests the design philosophy behind the instrument. EVE was made to recreate in the virtual world of softsynths the exciting and immediate experience of the early age of electronics in pop, rock and jazz music from the 1960’s and 1970’s. During this creative period in music history, many musicians started to employ the innovative sounds of the ‘electric keyboards’ which were newly available for use on stage and in the studio: Rhodes electric pianos, Hammond and Vox organs, Hohner clavinets, strings machines such as the Arp Solina string ensemble, Moog synthesizers, and all those that are now considered ‘classics’. It was not only keyboards that were a part of this revolution in popular music: the use of effects and recording techniques for layering, blending and manipulating sounds transformed the way music was produced and conceptualized. Tape based delay lines, rotating speaker cabinets, guitar distortion pedals, wah wah, phasing, flanging and other effects became an integral part of the process of sound design.

EVE takes these vintage sounds and this early approach to ‘electronic’ music production as a starting point, bringing this general philosophy and sound into the modern virtual environment with an intuitive and powerful interface. At the core of the EVE approach to sound design is the basic structure of 3 sample-playing layers, 2 multi-effect racks, and a selected library of multisampled ‘electric keyboards’. This enables the blending of several waveforms and instruments into a vintage wall of sound, or alternatively, the use of the 3 layers multi-timbrally as a vintage workstation. These layers can then be further processed through EVE’s powerful multi-effect racks.

EVE features a well designed system of parameters for tweaking instruments and effects towards musical results, with all parameters accessible on a single page for easy and intuitive sound design. Using EVE 2 is just like having the vintage boxes at your fingertips. If only it was this easy back in the day!
